Cancer Survivorship

Cancer Survivorship

Dr. Lindemann knows first hand what it feels like to be a cancer survivor. She completed chemotherapy and radiation treatments for Hodgkin Lymphoma over 20 years ago.

WHY

Cancer Survivors know that feeling. When the oncologist says, "Congratulations! I don't need to see you anymore!" What a wonderful step on the journey. So WHY does it feel so scary?

WHAT

WHAT now? Will my primary care doctor know about my cancer history? Will they know how to watch out for recurrence or secondary cancer risks? Will they know what I might feel like and what side effects I might have from my cancer diagnosis and treatments?

Oncologists follow their patients very closely and the doctor-patient relationship is one of great trust. Often times, patients do not have the same type of trusting relationship with a primary care physician, since they don't see them as frequently and haven't been through such a difficult trial as cancer treatments. And primary care doctors typically have training in caring for average-risk patients, but little experience with Cancer Survivors, whose risks are difference than average patients.

WHERE

Dr. Lindemann is HERE to be that primary care physician for you. She has been through it. She also has the medical knowledge with Cancer Survivorship training at the University of Minnesota. She follows NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network) guidelines on Cancer Survivorship to make sure her patients have the most up to date recommendations.

HOW

Dr. Lindemann uses Treatment Summaries and Survivorship Care Plans (TSSPs) to guide your care. These are individualized plans that show each person's individual history and risk based on their diagnosis and treatments. If your oncologist did not create one for you, she will build one with you.
